Nebivolol 5 mg tablets

What is Nebivolol and what is it used for?

  • It is a beta-adrenergic blocking agent indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure.
  • Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular diseases, especially strokes and myocardial infarction.

Do not take Nebivolol:

  • If you are allergic to nebivolol.
  • severe bradycardia
  • Heart block greater than first degree
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • decompensated heart failure
  • liver dysfunction

Warnings and Precautions:

  • Acute exacerbation of coronary artery disease upon discontinuation of treatment: Do not stop abruptly.
  • Diabetes: Monitor glucose because beta blockers may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia.

Possible side effects:

  • headache
  • fatigue

Other medicines and Nebivolol:

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:
  • CYP2D6 inhibitors (fluoxetine, bupropion, paroxetine, amiodarone) may increase nebivolol levels.
  • Reserpine or clonidine may cause excessive sympathetic suppression.
  • Both digitalis glycosides (digoxin and digitoxin) and beta-blockers slow atrioventricular conduction and reduce heart rate. Their use can increase the risk of bradycardia.
  • Calcium channel blockers such as verapamil or diltiazem may cause excessive decreases in heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Antacids (such as cimetidine), which are used to treat excess stomach acid. If you are being treated for excess stomach acid, you should take nebivolol with meals and the antacid between meals.
  • Asthma medications, nasal decongestants (such as pseudoephedrine), or certain eye disorders such as glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) or dilated pupils.

How to take Nebivolol:

  • For high blood pressure: Adults over 18 years: The recommended dose is 5 mg once daily.
  • For chronic heart failure: Adults over 18 years: The recommended initial dose is 1.25 mg daily.
  • This may be increased after one to two weeks to half a tablet daily (2.5 mg) and then to one tablet daily (5 mg).
  • It can be increased to the maximum recommended dose of 2 tablets daily (10 mg).
  • You can take it with or without food.
  • If you want to increase the dose for further reduction in blood pressure, wait two weeks.
  • If there is renal or hepatic impairment, the dose is 2.5 mg.

How to store Nebivolol:

  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store Nebivolol between 68° to 77°F (20° - 25°C).
  • Dispose of Nebivolol that has expired or is no longer needed safely.
